ABOUT ME
I think it's hard to sum up who someone is, when I am working at school I'm an Manager or 'Miss' and it's easy to define someone based on their job and that is literally all they are, for me that is how I've paid the bills for the last 9 years but is certainly not something that contains me. I am a lot of things, all different, some weird, some unexpected but somehow all rolled up are what outlines me!
Who am I?
I'm Laura, mummy to Ruby my little Cavalier King Charles and the rest of my Menagerie. We live a my amazing partner who is so incredibly loving, supportive and believes in me.
I am a highly creative person, I love learning new skills, making, designing and creating. You can see some of my creations that I sell on this page or in the links.
They include personalised items, resin art, alcohol ink and other art styles, soap making and Jewellery.
I love animals- I did want to be a vet when I was younger but I went down the art route and now stick to breeding poultry and waterfowl, looking after my 3 sheep Bramble, Bracken and Willow and my lovely Ruby to fulfil my love of animals!
HOW DID I GET HERE ?
I did Interior Design- specialising in Exhibition and Retail Design at Uni, worked in that sector from 2007 to 2011. I worked as a photographic stylist when I first graduated, then moved to an interior design company in Leeds and then to Laura Ashley. In 2012 went into teaching, which I knew I would end up in at some point in my career and started to train as a Design and Technology teacher.
I have worked in schools for the past 9 years in the classroom and as a manager out of the classroom. In my spare time I have been pursuing my creative side, I somehow lost myself in life and confidence in my ability and got stuck in that rat race I suppose, doing things what other's expect me to do.
I started dressmaking just before I went in to teacher training, I bought an amazing book that teaches you how to pattern draft from taking your measurements and voila! I was back doing something I loved and good at!
I was approaching 30 and had a successful career in education, bought my home and then met my wonderful husband and best friend a year later. That stability and love enabled me to have the confidence and self belief to pursue other things that interested me and it's been really good journey to get myself back to my true self and not letting my insecurities, doubts and other people's opinions define me. I'm still on that road today.
So.... Nails and Hair? Where did that come from?
Covid came and I felt like I wanted to get back into learning, I had done my own nail extensions since being a child - an avid nail biter - trying to cover them up! I came across Glitterbels acrylic and then it was as if a whole world opened up before me. It has the opportunity so be so creative, the limit is literally your imagination and combined with the academic side of it- I was sold.
I decided to train and qualified in Acrylic Nail extensions in July 2020 with Nails by Annabel and working for myself. We were in the first lockdown when I qualified so really I still am at the start of my career in this industry. In the second lockdown I looked for another service to add to the nails and that's when I came across the sew in weave and later the hair-loss services which I have qualified in and been doing since April. In 2022 I have continued my training and have qualified in classic lashes.
I absolutely love what I do and I am now making the transition to being self-employed on full time basis in an industry that allows me to use all my skillsets and attributes well and enjoy it.
Life I too short to be unhappy and I am prepared to work hard for it! Thank you for your support and interest so far, I would love you to share the journey with me.
Thank you for reading this, well done for getting to the bottom!
